What this checker looks for

Short, lowercase, hyphenated slugs are easier to read, share and rank.

Lowercase only

Uppercase letters force ugly encoded URLs.

Hyphens, not underscores

Google treats hyphens as word separators.

Short slugs

60 characters or fewer keeps links shareable.

Clean hyphens

No leading, trailing or double hyphens.

Shallow paths

Three or fewer path levels stay crawlable.

No filler

One keyword each, minus stop-word bloat.

How to use the checker

Paste the candidate slug, then fix the weakest signal first.

1

Paste the candidate

Drop in a full URL or a bare slug — no fetch needed.

2

Read the score

Casing, separators and length carry the most weight.

3

Trim the weakest check

Lowercase, hyphenate, shorten and cut repeats and filler.

What a clean slug looks like

Slug FAQs

What makes a URL slug SEO-friendly?

Short, lowercase, hyphen-separated words with one keyword each. Avoid uppercase, underscores, spaces and special characters so links stay readable and shareable.

How long should a slug be?

Aim for 60 characters or fewer in the final segment. Up to 75 is tolerable, but anything longer should be trimmed of filler and stop words.

Do I need to change old URLs after fixing a slug?

Yes — redirect the old URL to the new one with a 301 so rankings and links carry over. This tool only scores the candidate slug; it changes nothing on your site.
